
I started kickboxing with Shape Up Kickboxing Duluth in October 2022. Since then, I have improved my cardio endurance, built strength and muscle, gained a family and community, and stretched myself farther than I previously conceived I could stretch.
I found myself in an incredibly low point in 2017 that lasted for several years, reaching a fever pitch in 2020. I was uncomfortable with everything about myself, and it reflected in every aspect of my life. With encouragement and support from close family and friends, I have been making so many changes that have helped me improve my outlook so much that it feels like a complete 180 from then. The biggest of these changes was the decision to sign up for kickboxing. Since then, in the past year, I have started volunteering at the public library, aced my first semester back at college, and now have challenged myself in kickboxing as well as in martial arts.
More recently, I have gained the courage to stretch even farther by signing up for martial arts 3 nights a week. Now, I attend kickboxing at Shape Up with a new goal to hone my technique and athleticism. I get my butt kicked, so I can kick butt to the beat of a fire playlist, led by killer instructors and in the company of great friends. I continue to push myself out of my comfort zone while training and learning self-defense. Shape Up Kickboxing was one of the singularly most transformative decisions I have made for myself.
