Shape Up Kickboxing helped me lose almost 200lbs in a little over year!!! I look forward to seeing what Shape Up can help me accomplish in the year to come.
In 2022, I weighed nearly 480lbs, and my health was declining. My wife suggested we try Shape Up Kickboxing after seeing them finishing their workouts a few times. I was looking for something to help me lose weight before my scheduled Bariatric Surgery later that year, and I had always done better sticking to a workout routine when in a group setting. The kickboxing classmates were very welcoming, and classes were fun and rewarding for both of us.
At first, the classes were very challenging for me. Instructor Sullivan and Instructor Groth found ways to modify movements I was physically unable to do. I never felt like I was missing out or unable to participate due to my size. The rest of the group was very supportive, frequently offering encouragement and complimenting my small successes. Pre surgery with a combination of walking, very light weight lifting, and kickboxing class 3 days a week, I was able to lose 35lbs in a few months.
In November of 2022, I had my surgery and had to take several weeks off from physical activity, outside of walking. When I returned to class, my instructors modified workouts for me, and gradually guided me back to full speed. The group was as encouraging as ever, and class after class, I was able to do a little more, work a little longer, and have a lot of fun while doing it.
It’s been a year since surgery, and I am down to 289lbs, and classes were more fun than it has ever been. I was able to double the weight loss than expected from surgery, and I recovered faster thanks to attending classes with my wife.
