ShapeUpKickboxing — If you struggle in reaching New Year’s Resolutions, you’re not alone! As the start of January always seem to be the best time to make new changes, chances are the new goals die by February. But the thing is, people give up on their goals for many reasons. While some will say it’s because they set the bar too high or made unrealistic, unspecific goals, we’re really going up against the Battle of Change. Whatever habit we’re trying to build or break, experts say it takes 21 days to make a new habit, but 6 months for it to become part of your character.

Be Patient

As kickboxing instructors at Shape Up Kickboxing, we say to be (extremely) patient with yourself when working on your goals. For example, if you have never exercised in your life, sticking to a workout routine will take a lot of practice AND patience! One would need to start where they can and work their way up.

Be Flexible

The next advice, revisit your goals and adjust them if needed. Sometimes, we make goals and don’t realize what we’re getting ourselves into. The important part after making goals is to keep track of their progress. If you’re revisiting goals weekly, reflecting regularly will help you with accountability and will inspire you how to improve your approach.

Be Communicative

The last advice, seek help or a community that can help you achieve your goals. The journey to make a new change is better when we keep the right company. We don’t have to embrace the struggles or challenges alone. Knowing who to talk to during the tough days is not only a great strategy, but it benefits you such as staying positive, on track, and filling up on new motivation. The fact that we approach New Year’s Resolutions is still a good thing! It sets our focus and drive with good intentions. And even when we don’t reach resolutions or other types of goals, chances are we learned something about ourselves and have made progress in the direction we want.
